Eastern Sierra - Bishop Creek - Tom Gamache

A 'WANDERING AROUND OUTDOORS' FIELD WORKSHOP
October 9 – 14, 2010 – 6 days
Eastern Sierra Nevada / Owens Valley / Long Valley Caldera and beyond.

A 6 DAY WAO Field Workshop. Dramatic eastern Sierra Nevada landscapes are our objective including a world famous movie location, mysterious tuffa towers, thousand year old trees, a national historic park, autumn color displays, the best preserved gold mining town in the west and an afternoon visit to a world renown national park (if there is time) all captured between Lone Pine and Bridgeport, CA. Locations include: The Alabama Hills, Manzanar National Historic Site, the White Mountains bristlecone pine forest, the spectacular autumn color of the Eastern Sierra, Mono Lake and its enigmatic tuffa towers, Bodie State Park and a visit to upper Yosemite National Park/Tuolomne Meadows via Tioga Pass (if we have time). ‘WAO’ field workshops are not limited to those who have previously taken a ‘Masters Program’ Photography Workshop. WAO field workshops are designed for all photographer levels and experience.  Be assured that during each WAO tour we continue to explain and demonstrate the principles of landscape photography as presented in the Masters Program. Tom and Van are with you at every step and location with all the help, reminders and suggestions that you normally expect from any Wandering Around Outdoors workshop. This is our most extensive and wide ranging workshop of the year. Board, room and transportation not included.

A 'MASTERS PROGRAM’ WORKSHOP
November 19-21, 2010
Death Valley National Park , CA

A 3 DAY 'Masters Program' Workshop. Tom Gamache, creator of the Death Valley National Park Visitor Center's stunning 23-foot ‘Stovepipe Wells Sand Dunes’ panorama mural, and Van Webster, landscape photographer and educator will, for the third year, conduct a mid November 2010 Landscape Photography Workshop in Death Valley National Park.

Death Valley National Park is one of the most beautiful and mysterious places on earth. The park comprises more than 3.3 million acres of spectacular desert scenery, complex geology, undisturbed wilderness and sites of historical interest. Capturing the full scope of this extraordinary location is a challenge for any artist. Both Tom and Van have visited and photographed Death Valley innumerable times over decades of photographic work.

As in all Wandering Around Outdoors workshops and tours, you will be guided by the instructors and you will also have numerous opportunities to explore your own artistic vision at some of Death Valley’s most iconic locations. 

This “Masters Program” Workshop is a special event for anyone wanting to capture the mythic aura of the desert landscape. Possible shooting locations include Artist Palette, Badwater, Dante’s View, Aguerreberry Point, Scotty’s Castle, Ubehebe Crater, Titus Canyon, Stovepipe Wells Sand Dunes, The Wildrose Charcoal Kilns, Mosaic and Golden Canyons, Devil’s Golf Course and other world famous locations.

The Masters Program is an eye opening exploration of the compositional rules, guidelines and principles of landscape art that the masters have used for centuries.  In this program we will show you how to directly apply the language of landscape art to your photographic images.  The information in this program with forever change how you view the world and make photographs.  Included in the “Master’s Program” is extensive documentation that compiles and codifies decades of research and writing by Tom and Van on the essence of landscape art. 

Accommodations: This Death Valley Location Workshop is held during one of Death Valley's most beautiful and pleasant times of the year. Hotels and campgrounds in Furnace Creek and Stovepipe Wells are likely to be sold out prior to the workshop. Advance reservations are strongly recommended. To guarantee workshop registration and room availability, please plan to register as soon as possible. Photographers wishing to stay outside the park will find lodging in Beatty Nevada. Board, room and transportation not included.

A 4 DAY 'Masters Program' Workshop.For nature photographers in Southern California ‘Wandering Around Outdoors’ in conjunction with The National Park Service and UCLA’s Stunt Ranch Reserve, will present a four-day “Masters Program” Landscape Photography Workshop. This is a four day workshop and includes ‘Digital Photography Boot Camp’ which will help you take your camera off “Auto” and make truly “eye catching” landscape photographs. This unique workshop offers photographers of all levels the best fall colors and most dramatic light of the year in the country’s largest urban park.

Tom Gamache is the award winning chronicler of the beauty, color and moods of the Santa Monica Mountains. Join Tom and Van for an exciting, fun and friendly learning experience capturing the peaks, valleys, oak woodlands and fall color of their beloved Santa Monica Mountains just as the “Masters” would have.

Digital Camera Boot Camp is a friendly but intensive program in digital camera technology with an emphasis on giving the photographer the knowledge and confidence to take their digital camera off of the “Auto” setting and gain control of their image making.   Participants will be taken step by step through a series of exercises that will explore the dials, buttons and menus of their camera systems.  Just like learning a sport or a performing art, using the camera is a skill that needs to be practiced in order to be mastered. Digital Camera Boot Camp gives photographers the exercises and experiences necessary to make better photographs.

A 3 DAY WAO Field Workshop.Designed for photographers at all levels and experience, this location workshop will be especially helpful to those who are familiar with our ‘Masters Program’ curriculum and the many principles of landscape photographic art.  Even though one can’t ‘count on’ any year being a bountiful wildflower year in Death Valley, should the wildflowers bloom we will spend time capturing the amazing bounty of the desert’s floral color. Should the 2011 bloom be mild or insufficient for the purposes of landscape photography, the park is replete with many other stunning world renowned locations to work in.

‘WAO’ Photography Workshops are not limited to those who have previously taken a ‘Masters Program’ Photography Workshop.  During this and each WAO workshop we continue to explain and demonstrate the same artistic principles of landscape photography presented in our ‘Masters Program’ Workshop lecture program.  Tom and Van will be with you at every step and location during this ‘WAO’ workshop with all the help, reminders and suggestions that you normally expect from any ‘Masters Program’ and ‘Wandering Around Outdoors’ workshop.

A 3 DAY 'Masters Program' Workshop.The Santa Ynez Valley has been the location of one of the longest running “Masters Program” workshops. We are in our eighth year in this extraordinary location.  We are pleased to announce that the 2011 edition of the Santa Ynez Valley ‘Masters Program’ Landscape Art Photography Workshop will take place under the auspices of The Wildling Art Museum of Los Olivos, CA . This popular three day workshop has proven to be a Mecca for both novices and experts who are serious about creating award winning landscape art.

The Masters Program is an eye opening exploration of the compositional rules, guidelines and principles of landscape art that the masters have used for centuries.  In this program we will show you how to directly apply the language of landscape art to your photographic images.  The information in this program with forever change how you view the world and make photographs.  Included in the ‘Master’s Program’ is extensive documentation that compiles and codifies decades of research and writing by Tom and Van on the essence of landscape art.

Included are Saturday and Sunday breakfasts and Saturday lunch. Board, room and transportation not included.

Central Coast - Santa Lucia Mountains - Tom Gamache

A 'WANDERING AROUND OUTDOORS' FIELD WORKSHOP
June 10 – 12, 2011
California - Central Coast – Morro Bay to Southern Big Sur

A 3 DAY WAO Workshop.Wildflowers, pacific coastal and mountain views, tide pools, sunsets, elephant seals, verdant valleys … more. We will visit the offshore seastacks and arches at Buchon Point and Montana de Oro State Park, Morro Bay, including back country ‘Roadscapes’ and ‘Seascapes’ at San Simeon Point, elephant seals and numerous “little known” central coast locations.

‘WAO’ Photography Tours are not limited to those who have previously taken a ‘Masters Program’ Photography Lecture Workshop.  During each WAO Field Workshop we continue to explain and demonstrate the same principles of landscape photography as presented in the Master’s Program Lecture Workshops.

Camping and motel accommodations are available nearby. Board, room and transportation not included in the workshop registration fee.
